The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

Sometimes things just come together so perfect.  Monday night was one of those nights.  Kelly and I did some back and forth on the date… a little nervous it might rain, a little nervous a tooth might fall out before we could get this done… but when I arrived at the simply stunning grounds where we’d arranged to meet, it all just came together.  The light was divine.  The temperature was perfect.  There were no misquotes (if you know me, you know I have an obsessive hatred of them right now).  The outfits were straight out of “What to Wear” and the girls were truly wonderful.

I am simply beyond thrilled with what I captured.  Kelly, thank you so much.  I cannot wait for your big family session!

North Shore Peeps… stay tuned… next week I’ll be announcing some local mini sessions that you can take advantage of in preparation for holiday card season… yes, it’s approaching that fast!

I will never be as [well dressed, put together, cool, nice, charming, hospitable, gracious, beautiful] as my clients.   Seriously.  You all know that I just love to love my clients.  And in the back of my mind, I always think “this streak will end, someday I might meet someone I don’t click with, I might [...]

I will never be as [well dressed, put together, cool, nice, charming, hospitable, gracious, beautiful] as my clients.   Seriously.  You all know that I just love to love my clients.  And in the back of my mind, I always think “this streak will end, someday I might meet someone I don’t click with, I might not fall in love with them and then what will I do?”  Maybe.  But not this time.  I actually drove away from this session thinking “OK, so next time Amanda is at Carolyn’s, would it be totally inappropriate if I called Stephanie and we both went over there with a bottle of wine?”

Actually, yes, because Amanda would be working as she is Night Nurse extraordinairre.  If you live on the North Shore and are having a baby and think you might need some night help, email me and I’ll give you Amanda’s 411.  She is an amazing nurse and has ventured out on her own and I highly reccomend.

I digress.

Amanda & AJ and their kids are really awesome.  Like any parents, they were worried about how everyone was behaving, probably thinking that I wasn’t getting much and what a rambunctious brood of children have they.  But really, their kids were kids and they are the kind of kids I love.  In my world, I say you can take spirit out of a kid, but you can’t put it back in.  Anyway, I loved them… and I was really thrilled when I looked at what I captured.  I could stare at family images forever… I love seeing the little nuances between parents, each kid, how they have each other’s traits and how they interact.

So Amanda, I am so sorry it took so long to blog these… but the good news is that they are all done and I should have your entire gallery to you sometime in the next few days while I hustle between here and Austin!

Carter might have been one of the cutest newborns I have ever seen. I am serious. He had the cutest little perfectly shaped head, and was just so small with big round eyes. Perfection. I am so happy that I was able to capture him on short notice… like the short notice he gave his parents by arriving a few weeks early! But as I talk to two good friends now, who each have about 2 weeks to go, early is good… early is good.

As you all know, my life is endlessly connected (which is why it’s such a good thing I cleaned up my act after college!). And once again, this mom and I were connected. I didn’t blog much about it, but last year I did this super cool project for a phenomenal Day School up here on the North Shore. By far one of the most enjoyable assignments I’ve taken on. I photographed a “Day in the Life” for their website and Viewbook content. So as Mom and I are talking, and she tells me where she teaches, it occurs to me that I have actually photographed her before! And really, she looked as awesome 12 days after having a baby as she did before she was pregnant. Dad was pretty cool too… a surfer, so you know that makes me happy… a really smart surfer, actually! This kid is very lucky having the parents he does.

[Mom from last May.]

So once again, a very amazing Monday… doing what I love. Watching families together, watching them love their new baby, and watching their new baby watch them!

Rockabye Sweet Baby James. And Rockabye we did. To little avail. Prior to my Monday sessions, the other times I’d actually seen James, he’d been out like a light. But not for our session. Rockabye Sweet Baby James. And Rockabye we did. To little avail. Prior to my Monday sessions, the other times I’d actually seen James, he’d been out like a light. But not for our session. And do you know what? I am TOTALLY great with that. There is this photographer myth that newborns have to be asleep to get awesome images. And yes, it’s much easier to curl them up and pose them when they are. But seeing as that I emit caffeine from my pores, and seemingly wake up every newborn I spend time with, I’ve adjusted my style to really embrace lifestyle moments. And I LOVE it. I might actually chuck the bean bag and the backdrop all together. Really.

There are a few other reasons I am simply in love with this session. I got to spend time chilling with Steph. And then little Gracie (my son’s future prom date) curled up next to me and proceeded to put on every newborn item I had in my bag. And Colin came home to be the amazing older brother. And it was rainy and grey and I shot the 2nd part of the session at f/2.8 ISO 5000. And I knew it would be B&W grainy. And I loved that too.

We have some future plans for Sweet Baby James involving some super cute new things I want to try out. We’ll feature those in the next installment of the Sweet Baby James Show! Stay tuned!

Yes, I realize this is a monster of a sneak peak. And I know I should be doing my taxes. But Steph deserves this!

We are all so excited to meet this baby.  I can’t even put into words how much we love these guys and how happy we are that they will be parents in just a few short [and they will be short!] weeks!  I’ve been thinking about this maternity session for a while, knowing how beautiful Lisa is, and what a great area they live in, with easy access to the beach.  I was a little nervous since everywhere I looked on the weather map, it said rain… but Mother Nature really got it together for Sunday and pulled out a winner.

I have so much more to say about this, but I can’t because I have a 20 month cyclone destroying my office… too sick for school, too well for home and into Sharpies & Post-its.  And I have to pack us up for our trip tomorrow.  And do about 10,000 things.  Like post nursery contest updates, and all that jazz.

So these can pretty much speak for themselves.  Love.
