The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

Needless to say, when I discovered this field behind my mother’s house, I was thrilled.  And I’d been secretly scouting yet another abandoned brick building.  So when Sarah said she was game to come to meet for a session, I jumped.  And I am SO glad I did.

That said, I think I could have put these two kiddos in front of a dumpster and had just as wonderful results.  They are seriously stunning children.  I haven’t met their dad, but I can say without hesitation, some of it must come from their mom.

Loved this entire session.

Sarah is quite possibly the friend in my life I have known the longest.  My guess is that outside of my sister and cousins, she is the baby my mom lay me down next to first.  We have known each other “forever,” [because we are both approaching the age when you stop telling people your age].  And now we are both moms, with our children somewhat close in years as well.  I spent an hour with her Monday, the first time in years.  It was so nice.  Not a lot of explanation or reference needed, just catching up. [see similar explanation of our relationship here]

Growing up, her parents had a study in which hung the most beautiful black and white photographs I’d seen.  The were dark and grainy, faces shot in shadow, highlights just right.  Before I decided this would become my life, I knew it was how I wanted to shoot.  When I entered their home on Monday, my first stop was to walk down the hall and study each one.  Still lovely as ever, timeless, beautiful.

It made me very happy to photograph Sarah’s beautiful baby girl and to try to meet those the standards those images set so long ago.  I am not sure that I was able to, but that’s what I’ll keep working towards and keep hoping for.  So here is one…

[and now that is stuck in my head.  and if you don't know what I am singing, you are too young to be reading my blog].

But I am just way in the weeds, really trying to catch up and get everyone everything they need before the holiday.  It might come down to the wire, but I’ll do my best to make sure it happens!  I’d love to say next year I’ll stick to my rule “no sessions after Thanksgiving,” but I really liked the people I met and so this year I am happy I squeezed a few more in!  I’ll blog here and there as I catch up and hopefully show some new images that have been just been napping on my harddrive.

So I was super excited to meet Nicole because really, any friend of my cousin Laurie’s is a friend of mine.  I just always like the people she sends my way!  Anyway, it was just FREEZING when I got to their [awesomely renovated] home on Saturday.  We shot inside, natural light [great windows] and I dragged them outside a bit too.  It was worth it, because despite the shivering, the light was really really nice!  All three kids were, of course, gorgeous.  I was thrilled when I got home and saw what candid moments I captured!

So big blog share since Nicole will also get their slideshow tonight!
