The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

Last year I posted about Luca, who was the fastest kid I’d ever met.  I thought he was wearing Superfast Shoes.  It turns out he just has superfast feet.  Because even without shoes, he’s fast.  One year later, he was back with his new baby brother Seb (delicious) and his very amazing parents, Sophie & [...]

Last year I posted about Luca, who was the fastest kid I’d ever met.  I thought he was wearing Superfast Shoes.  It turns out he just has superfast feet.  Because even without shoes, he’s fast.  One year later, he was back with his new baby brother Seb (delicious) and his very amazing parents, Sophie & Paco.

I had a very funny morning with this family.  Funny because Luca ran like crazy, Paco laughed a lot, Sophie chased and Seb just sat and took it all in.  And what made it so awesome, is that all I had to do was shoot!

So here are a few, especially family ones with all four of them looking at the camera!  Believe in the impossible and it will happen!

Safe travels home to Spain.  It was wonderful to see you and I look forward to your next visit!

And you should all know that I stood in the middle of the street on the double yellow line and stopped traffic while I took this.  Complete with jumping up and down to get everyone to look at me.  Whatever it takes, baby.

And this is Sophie & Paco when they are all spiffed up!  Not bad, right??

[proofed on my laptop, apologize if the colors are wonky!]

Don’t tell Owen, but I am really not cleaning the toy room.  I couldn’t.  I was just way too excited to come home and look at these and blog them.  I gladly encouraged him to drive to Brighton to clean up the yard so I could have some time to work on these.  How could I not?  LOOK AT HIM.  Seriously, have you ever seen such a cute baby?  Absolute favorite stage… newly sitting, not moving and a happy little boy!  He was so tired at one point, pulled it together and was a rock star right up to the last frame I shot!

I was so excited to meet Stacie and her family because she came to me via Erica (and apparently via quite of few of you Topsfield peeps).  I love it when friends connect friends.  The weather was great, the timing was great, and everything just sort of fell into place for this one!  Yay!

And with that, I am off to make up two hours of cleaning in about 15 minutes!

Before you all start singing my praises… I did NOT come up with this idea.  Although I have always given guidelines on what to wear, and I have a What to Wear section in my client information packet, the idea of blogging What to Wear is not mine.  Many photographers do this.  But I did hijack the idea because we are upon the Holiday Card time of year and I’d like to offer up some ideas.  These are just ideas, I am not suggesting you spend the $612 or so that I just pulled together on Mom’s outfit at Boden.  But… if you are going to Boden, check out their Outfit Maker!  It’s fabulous!  {it also drew attention to the fact I dress like a dud, another story entirely.}

It took me at least an hour to come up with this, so I do know it’s not an easy task.  Things I kept in mind… I started with mom… because if mom looks good, everyone will have a much better day.  I also believe that if a mom is not comfortable in her outfit, she will generally feel bad about herself and not like the pictures.  I am telling you this because (1) I know it’s true and (2) I am that mom.   So moms… start with you and work out.  Once I had her outfit pulled together (and again, can’t sing enough praises about the Outfit Maker), I started on the boy… there was a Boden sweater I just loved that was the same aqua but with an argyle.  But after dressing boy & girl in aqua, mom in aqua, it didn’t leave me with much for Dad.  If everyone is dressed identical, it’s just plain boring.  I also decided to play it a bit more safe because aqua is a big color, so doing an aqua argyle was a bit too bold of a statement for me.  I loved the aqua and brown because it screams fall with a tiny little nod to the ocean!  I added in the cream pants for the dad (ok, light brown, sorry Owen, I won’t put you in cream) because I thought Mom & Dad would look great together and it would tie in nicely if you did cream tights for mom or the girl.  I also have some cream accents in the mom’s necklace.  Finally, I imagined the pairings you’d do in a session… Mom & Dad, Mom & Son, etc. and everyone seemed to really compliment each other.

Next week I’ll focus on a Gap or Old Navy option, then a more formal one with perhaps Olive Juice dresses for the girls!  Please leave me some love and let me know if you found this to be at all helpful!

Typically I don’t double blog sessions. I do come across a lot of favorites while I am reviewing a session and sometimes think “I should have waited and blogged this one” but then I hope that it will just be a pleasant surprise when the family sees their session. But I loved this one. This is not my style. Typically I am not artsy, ethereal or dreamy (though I would love to be). And to be honest, I wasn’t even really shooting any more for this, I think I was squatting on the ground to put my gear away and looked up to get this, I didn’t even change my settings, but I looked up and saw it and snapped. But I love the way they are both looking at a land far, far away… maybe thinking about home.., in Spain or the one just a block away. And I just started humming…

Let me know what you think!
