The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

I had my first beach session of the year (outside of a few cold days down in Quogue with my own kiddos).  It was Ah-MAY-zing.  Here I go again… but really, do you realize how fortunate I am that I show up to meet clients and I just love them?  My client this morning asked me if I ever get tough clients and I laughed and said “Honestly?  I love everyone who hires me.”

Megan picked the date and then and we worried a bit early in the week about weather… and a little cut or bruise here and there… then about the wind… but I think we can both say that everything was perfect.  Including her kids.  I think we were able to get some traditional family portraits with really fun candids mixed in and I love how everything came together.  The outfits were perfect…it’s like the sky called and said “wear some blue.”  Needless to say, this is tagged in “What to Wear!”

Love.

Loved our session this month! I walked in thinking “What am I ever going to do with these guys to make it special? It’s raining and grey and none of the things I thought up even feel feasible in this cold…” And this house, and these babies, they never fail to disappoint. It is probably the best thing I can do for my photography growth and development… every month looking for new and unique challenges, not re-using props or locations, working with the babes so that I document their evolution and show their uniqueness and bond! I also keep thinking about all the One Year albums options there are… and Carolyn’s fabulous canvas wall… this has been way more fun than I ever expected!

I am seriously loving these babes though. They have totally distinct personalities, but are so cute in that they still grab for each other, knowing they are connected. And I think they weigh more than Janey… and Will for sure has more hair than she does! Hopefully she’ll like younger men…

We’ve known Andy and Sarah for a long time now… it gets crazy when you add up the years because it sort of feels like it was just yesterday that I was a super cute size 4 and pranced my way into the Funk Software Holiday Party! But alas, it was more like seven or eight years ago… That was the first time I met these guys and I instantly hit it off with them! Andy and Owen worked with each other for a long time before that, so even though they haven’t made it official, they are kind of like blood brothers [at least I don't think they've made it official... I dunno... maybe one of those random nights at the Cabin or at Desfina they did actually prick their fingers... that's sort of a guy thing, right? At least that's what I learned watching The Hangover]. Clearly I digress [I actually sat there for a few minutes thinking about that one].

Anyway, although I’ve spent time with Andy, Sarah and Murdoch, I never got to meet the lovely Baby Thayer, so I invited myself into their family for a morning and it was so fun! My favorite sessions are the lifestyle family kind where you can just capture a family being a family. It makes me really happy when I come home and look at what I shot, and I see the images that string together and tell a story. So I hope you guys enjoy these too!

And my apologies for the delay, you know if you are a friend of mine you ALWAYS end up waiting… and waiting… and waiting! I guess the upside is that you get a REALLY big blog post because your session is already proofed and ready!

Nursery Contest Boston Photographer

I’d like to start by thanking everyone who submitted entries for the contest.  As you know, we narrowed the voting down to 5 nurseries.  If your nursery did not make the final round, please keep an eye out for an email from me next week when I return from vacation.  Thank you very much for submitting your wonderful nurseries and adorable babies.  I loved looking at them all!

The rules and fine print!

  • Voting will be open until midnight, March 17, 2010 (that’s next Wednesday night).
  • You may vote once a day.
  • You may not trip the system — I read my stats and if I see anything super weird going on, I’ll contact you via email to determine what it could be and if it is fishy, you will be disqualified.
  • You are allowed to tell as many people as you like — spread the word like wildfire to get the votes… but please do not make any disparaging remarks about the other nurseries.  If I find out that this has happened, the parties responsible will be removed from the contest.
  • If you publicize via Facebook, please be sure to let people know that this is in no way a Facebook sponsored contest and people may voluntarily Fan my business, but it is not a condition of participation.
  • Winners will be announced on Match 19, 2010.  First place receives a free session in their fabulous nursery with their adorable child.  Second and third place will receive gift cards to Kenzie Kids and The Flat of the Hill.  Fourth and fifth place will receive a small treat as well.

And now for the finalists and voting! Note that numbers are posted on each nursery and listed below each image.
