The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

And they’re better than before.  Hey la, day la, the boys are back!  [You can thank me if you end up with that song in your head.  If you don't know that song, you're too young to read this blog, and yes, I card anyone under 21].  And yes, I know it’s supposed to be “boyfriend” and not “the boys” but that would have been weird.  Okay, enough.

I am [of course] late on posting these, so my apologies.  And I have to be short on words because I am [of course] catching up on what I owe everyone [including some amazing things for the mama of these two].

Enjoy!

Sometimes, I don’t blog. Big surprise, right? You can tell, I have large gaps between posts. Usually when this happens, it’s because I am completely swamped, overwhelmed and I just can’t add one more thing to my plate. When I am slow, I’ll blog pretty much everything I can… I’ll blog about what I cook, my kids snot filled faces, the weather. Sometimes my clients really want a blog post, and they don’t get one. Usually I try to appease with a quick Facebook album. Sometimes I do nothing.

Apparently for Melissa’s last two sessions, she fell through the blog cracks. I blogged a quick one for her newborn, but there was no write up… and I didn’t blog her holiday card session because I didn’t want to ruin the surprise of her card. So here we are, busy but not slammed, and I can finally do a little blog post for her.

I went to visit Melissa at her beautiful place in the city — next week, she and her family will be permanent city-dwellers. It’s amazing to see how happy she is there. Not to say she wasn’t happy living in her fabulous home north of the city… but here she is, in a one room luxury apartment, and she has everything she needs. She is relaxed. She is happy. She is loved. She is complete.

Baby Blake is 4 months old and he is awesome. In between feedings, wardrobe changes, being picked up, rearranged, passed between us, being put INTO A BASKET and being called in every which way so he would look at me, he never uttered a cry. He is so good natured, and happy, and just plain good. He must know how loved he is! I am so happy that I can document him through his first year and beyond. And even though I really, really enjoyed my morning with he and his mom (and lunch with his auntie and cousin), I am looking forward to the next session when we can include his dad and big brother!

So here he is. The amazingly adorable Blake. Love.

I can’t.  Shame on me because you know how I love these sessions.  This is the April installment of the Jack & Will Show.  Technically, I am right on time because it’s only two weeks from the session date, but usually I at least hook up Carolyn with a sneak peak! So here is our [...]

I can’t.  Shame on me because you know how I love these sessions.  This is the April installment of the Jack & Will Show.  Technically, I am right on time because it’s only two weeks from the session date, but usually I at least hook up Carolyn with a sneak peak!

So here is our sneak peak from April with a gallery and uploaded Facebook albums (and a canvas display wall diagram) all coming at you!  It might be fun for you to see my logic in suggesting canvas displays, and I have a few others I need to complete (Terri Lee)…. so maybe I’ll share that thought process as well!

Back to the boys.  Love these two.  They are doing SO well at sitting.  I would be they are even better two weeks later, so when I am there at end of this month, we’ll have way more to show you as these guys develop, the grass is greener, the temps are warmer and we move outside!  I already have grand plans for those rose bushes and just wait ’til I can get into that barn!

We might need to revisit the baseball theme next month so I can do it up right!

Nursery Contest Boston Photographer

Is your baby between 6-12 months old (ideally sitting!)?
Do you have a super cool nursery?
Would you be interested in winning a free session and mini-print package?

[contest information will be pinned to the sidebar until the contest is complete!  check there for details and updates!]

If you answered yes to all three of these questions, we would love to see pictures.  What’s in it for you?  A chance to win a free photography session featuring your baby and your nursery!  We would like to see between 1-4 photographs of your space.  At least one photograph must include your baby in the nursery itself.  We are looking for creative use of light, color and design elements.  Images must be taken by you or someone in your family (as in “please don’t submit images taken by another professional photographer.”)

All submissions must be received by midnight, March 5, 2010.

Entries will be judged by a panel of photographers who will narrow down the selection to 5 nurseries.  The finalists will be posted on the Kristina Young Photography Blog and the winner will be chosen via a public voting poll.  Voting will occur between March 10 – March 17, 2010. There are specific rules around voting that will be clarified during the voting round of the contest.

Winners will be announced on March 19, 2010. There will be 2nd & 3rd place prizes also awarded — gift certificates to Kenzie Kids (Wellesley & Dedham) & The Flat of the Hill (Beacon Hill)!. Winner must schedule session so it takes place between March 27 – May 8, 2010. Winners must sign a release to allow participating photographers to display images on blog, website, Facebook Business Page and any other print or web materials as deemed appropriate.

To enter, complete the following submission form: http://kristinayoungphotography.com/blog/nursery-contest-submission

All participants must agree to sign a model release allowing images to be displayed on participating blogs.  Winning participants must sign a release allowing images taken by participating photographers to be displayed on web site, blog, Facebook and print advertising sources.  Participants must also agree to standard Terms & Conditions of participating photographers.
