This is a fabulous age if you miss the 2 week “newborn” window and still want to capture your little when they are little. Any time between 12 – 16 weeks in the infant stage is wonderful, you get engaged eye contact, tummy time, smiles, baby acne is gone and they are really oh-so-lovin’ their mammas.

This fabulous and delicious little number was an at-home mini session — at a home with wonderful light, at 9:30-10:30AM time frame (when babies are happiest!) and a very accommodating little man. He quite possibly might be one of the cutest babies I have photographed in a LONG time. It was my pleasure!

[P.S. A great follow up time to this is when your baby can happily sit on their own!]

Somehow my crazy season crept up and began in July. Last year it was August, maybe September. But it starts out with me thinking that I am not that busy, and that I have life and work under control. And then I take vacation (for me it was vacation, staycation with family, staycation with friends) and I woke up in a cold sweat with orders to deliver and galleries to proof and everything else that keeps me up until all hours both worrying and working.

So with a few power hours in front of me, and nothing planned personally for quite a while, I am charging forward and catching up. Hopefully I can say that by the end of this week, everyone who has ordered from me will either have their goods, or will their goods will be ordered… and hopefully I will also be able to say that I only have my current week galleries outstanding. Dare to dream, dare to dream.

It’s also the time of year when I am HORRIBLE about blogging. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. And so look for more single images on Facebook... and sadly, look for blog posts with no words (for some, that might be a welcome relief to not have to read all my verbal diarrhea — wait, did I just put that word on my blog?).

So here’s a few from a session that goes out tomorrow, late, but still under three weeks, so in my overall timeline, not late, but for 2011 work, it’s late. My sincerest apologies. I loved this session, I loved this family, I loved this neighborhood, I loved this little boy, I loved the people that referred them to me… I loved the city that night and then going home refreshed and happy to see my own family. I love it when sessions do that for me. Get it, I loved it.

Enough said. And to just change it up, yo, and all BW post. Because every once in a while I wake up and say “I should just do this all in BW because I love it that much more.” No worries, the gallery and slideshow have both. This is just me being crazy at midnight.

“Hi, I’m Kristina. I am Greek.”

To anyone other than a Greek, that would be such an odd statement to include in an introduction, but our people know that this instantly forms a bond and a long conversation of churches, Greek School, Aunts/Uncles and visits to the Mother Country. This time was no exception as I shot the session… and since this family was also a referral from another (non-Greek) friend, we had many other connections a degrees of separation to discuss. When this happens, the session flies. I am always surprised to check my watch as I wrap up and realize that the time flew, and it was fun, and we captured great images to boot.

This little doll was wonderful, she seriously zonked out for a good part of our time and I was able to capture some beautiful images of her as a newborn! Hopefully we can connect again and I can document her as she grows!

Thanks for a wonderful Monday morning!

Do you all notice a little trend here on my blog? It’s called happy sitting babies, between 7-8 months old, that live in the city. There is a posse of them, they are all super cute, well dressed and they all have the most excellent moms. And the very odd thing is that even though they are almost all in the same development class at ISIS Parenting, and their moms are all mostly in the same workout classes, they all came to me from completely and totally different referrals… it is just by random chance that I can connect them all. As luck would have it, I REALLY like their families, and I have really loved all their sessions!

So Saturday I was excited to meet this family because they came from my favorite red-headed superstar Lilly Pulitzer model. You know who I am talking about if you peek in my studio and see the giant canvas of her sitting with her lovely girls. And this family did not disappoint. You guys know the drill, I walk in… we chat… it’s Six Degrees of Kristina Young… I look around and determine maybe I should set up camp and move into their living room… they are all super cute… and the rest of the session is a wandering-around-town-conversation about all things Boston, work, marriage and parenting. As if I have known them forever. So I really enjoyed myself if you can’t tell. I hope they did as well!

So Laura, Jake & Johnny…. I hope you love what I captured. Your son is gorgeous and contrary to what we worried about, I captured a ton of smiles! Thank you so much for having me!

What makes me happy?

Being in the city. Seven month old babies with perfect posture. Big blue eyes. Sunny days. Brownstones and bricks with glorious shade light. Big beds next to big windows. Clients that become my friends. Morning breaks from my children. Sipping hot fresh coffee while walking down a city street. Window shopping. My old neighborhood. Six degrees of Kristina. Gear that works properly. Husbands and wives that are in love. Parents loving their babies.

So pretty much every single thing about this session. I have to admit, I am actually obsessed with it a little bit.

What a glorious morning for me, and I also hope for Ethan and his parents. I truly enjoyed my time spent with new old friends.
I was really excited to come back and see her at one year… even more excited when I saw three of my canvases hanging in their kitchen! It makes me really happy when client do things with their images ::: cough cough says the women who does nothing with her own:::

I think I want to convince her parents to either come see me at the studio, or to do a follow up, not only because I miss seeing them in the images, but because I really like them!

And so here she is, in all her awesome one year old glory… introducing Olivia!

Sometimes, I don’t blog. Big surprise, right? You can tell, I have large gaps between posts. Usually when this happens, it’s because I am completely swamped, overwhelmed and I just can’t add one more thing to my plate. When I am slow, I’ll blog pretty much everything I can… I’ll blog about what I cook, my kids snot filled faces, the weather. Sometimes my clients really want a blog post, and they don’t get one. Usually I try to appease with a quick Facebook album. Sometimes I do nothing.

Apparently for Melissa’s last two sessions, she fell through the blog cracks. I blogged a quick one for her newborn, but there was no write up… and I didn’t blog her holiday card session because I didn’t want to ruin the surprise of her card. So here we are, busy but not slammed, and I can finally do a little blog post for her.

I went to visit Melissa at her beautiful place in the city — next week, she and her family will be permanent city-dwellers. It’s amazing to see how happy she is there. Not to say she wasn’t happy living in her fabulous home north of the city… but here she is, in a one room luxury apartment, and she has everything she needs. She is relaxed. She is happy. She is loved. She is complete.

Baby Blake is 4 months old and he is awesome. In between feedings, wardrobe changes, being picked up, rearranged, passed between us, being put INTO A BASKET and being called in every which way so he would look at me, he never uttered a cry. He is so good natured, and happy, and just plain good. He must know how loved he is! I am so happy that I can document him through his first year and beyond. And even though I really, really enjoyed my morning with he and his mom (and lunch with his auntie and cousin), I am looking forward to the next session when we can include his dad and big brother!

So here he is. The amazingly adorable Blake. Love.

I was so so excited to photograph Chase. Mostly because I REALLY like his mom. We are on the same page with a lot of things and so I just enjoy talking to her and catching up. I also figured that Chase would be a gorgeous baby (and I was right) because his sister, Chloe, is STUNNING. She is also a spitfire and one of the few little girls that can give Janey a run for her money when it comes to shrieking. But it’s been so fun for me to watch Chloe grow up. She is such a little girl now, polished, playful and really independent. She makes you work a little for it, but once you get it, she opens right up! So back to Chase. I was equally excited for this because we shot it at my house. I never, like NEVER, bring clients to my house. But I know Jessica, and I knew it would work. I love the light not only in my living room, but also in Janey’s bedroom. So I knew we’d have a great setup for newborn shots and for sibling shots. Best of all, I didn’t have to lug all my gear. I am working with an even bigger bean bag now and my blanket fascination is completely out of hand, so I almost need to attach Owen’s trailer to get to and from sessions! Anyway, it was just really nice.

So here are a few… not a lot because I want Jessica & Charles to be able to pick out some surprises for their birth announcements. But I just love them!

Sarah is quite possibly the friend in my life I have known the longest. My guess is that outside of my sister and cousins, she is the baby my mom lay me down next to first. We have known each other “forever,” [because we are both approaching the age when you stop telling people your age]. And now we are both moms, with our children somewhat close in years as well. I spent an hour with her Monday, the first time in years. It was so nice. Not a lot of explanation or reference needed, just catching up. [see similar explanation of our relationship here]

Growing up, her parents had a study in which hung the most beautiful black and white photographs I’d seen. The were dark and grainy, faces shot in shadow, highlights just right. Before I decided this would become my life, I knew it was how I wanted to shoot. When I entered their home on Monday, my first stop was to walk down the hall and study each one. Still lovely as ever, timeless, beautiful.

It made me very happy to photograph Sarah’s beautiful baby girl and to try to meet those the standards those images set so long ago. I am not sure that I was able to, but that’s what I’ll keep working towards and keep hoping for. So here is one…
