I ran a workshop tonight at ISIS, another one tomorrow.

A VERY big thank you to Helen Makadia who helped with setup, logistics and capturing images. I could NOT have done it without her. She is an awesome photographer and friend and I am excited that she’ll be able to teach the workshops out in the metro-west area.

A thank you also to the participants. Due to some unforeseen issues with setup, and then insane traffic, I ran 10 minutes late and had to catch up. I appreciate that you waited it out and stuck with me. I know I bombarded you with content. I hope that once you have some time to kick back, you can use what I provided you as a manual, or just a cheat sheet — we didn’t cover it all, but it should be an easy read. Remember… Messy Toy Room scenario is what to do when you have a dark house. Find the one window that has light, clear out the clutter, subject to the window and shoot!

I can’t wait for tomorrow in Arlington… and to hopefully bring you Snap Camp! soon. Please don’t hesitate to email me with any feedback (good or bad) about the session as well as with any questions that you might have!

Thank you and goodnight!

I am so incredibly excited to announce the first workshops developed by SnapShop Workshops: Oh Snap! Quick Tips for Fab Pics! Oh Snap! is an introductory workshop for parents who want to learn how to take better pictures of their children using their DSLR cameras (think Canon Rebel, Nikon D80, etc.). So many people say to me “I have a nice camera, but I just don’t know how to use it…” We developed Oh Snap! Workshop with you in mind.

Later this month, we will also introduce Snap Camp! Burn the Auto Off. At a Boot Camp you burn fat, at Snap Camp! you burn auto, meaning we teach you the real nitty gritty on how to get off Auto Mode and really use all the awesome power and functionality behind that nice camera (and we talk about all aspects of composition, processing, etc.). Stay tuned for that.

If you are a photographer and looking for details on these workshops — like maybe you’d like to deliver them to your clients as well — shoot us a line at snapshopworkshops@gmail.com and we’ll put you on our email list and you’ll be the first to hear about our line of ready-to-teach workshop products!

—————————————————————————-

I am even MORE excited that I will be delivering these workshops starting THIS WEEK at the newly branded ISIS – Parenting Starts Here. As you know, ISIS Maternity is a phenomenal resource for families in the Boston Area. I think everyone knows that they go so much farther than maternity. Their prenatal support is unparalleled… and so are their newborn, infant, toddler and family offerings. I know as a new mom I attended everything from Infant Massage to Baby Signs to Social Butterflies. I also used their Brookline storefront as my one-stop-shop for everything I needed in those early months. So they are now rebranded to “ISIS – Parenting Starts Here” and it makes perfect sense.

Still with me? Since I have a gallery in their Prudential Center location (in the Charlestown Room) and since I had so many inquiries from Boston Moms on my workshops, I approached them about partnering and they offered me the opportunity to be part of their brand new launch!

I will be teaching on Wednesday night in Brookline and Thursday night in Arlington. Usually these speaker events are only available for ISIS Members, but because of the brand launch, non-members may attend as well. For more details and to sign up, visit: ISIS Expert Speaker Series. Please note that the rates/fees apply only to this special series with ISIS and that future classes may be offered at higher, non-promotional rates.

Without further ado, let me properly announce Oh Snap!

Do have you have a DSLR camera and want to learn how to take great pictures of your kids?

Have you had your camera for a while and you are frustrated that your pictures are not looking as you imagined?

Are you frustrated that the selection at the bookstore does not meet your needs for a photography manual?

Do your images sit on your camera card for months, never downloaded?

——————————————————————-

Many parents purchase DSLR camera in hopes of not missing a moment of their children’s lives, but are not totally satisfied with the images when they appear on their computer screen. There are so many functions and buttons and and reading the manual is overwhelming. And with that, the camera sits on Auto mode and makes for a very expensive point-n-shoot.

Oh Snap! is an introduction to a series of workshops aimed to teach parents how to take better pictures of their children. Though high level workshop content will be delivered, it is also a forum to ask questions and get some answers (bring your camera and manual!). Participants will walk away with cheat sheets for common situations which will help them improve their photos with just a basic understanding of the basics of their camera.

Topics include:

training your eye to find the light,

composition and perspective,

auto and semi-manual settings,

lens and focal length selection,

output: downloading, storage and printing

This workshop is a great primer for Snap Camp! which is an in-depth workshop that covers the exposure triangle, moving to manual exposure settings, and post-processing techniques and workflow.

The workshop is taught by Kristina Young, owner of Kristina Young Photography and co-creator of the Snap-Shop workshop series.

More dates to be announced soon for Charlestown, Marblehead and Topsfield/Hamilton, MA! Please contact Kristina if you are interested in hosting a workshop in your store or your home.
