The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

March 30, 2011

I am blogging a bit out of order, so pardon me if I am jumping around and you don’t see your session quite yet! I am just really excited to share some initial images from my first studio session. I’ll update in a bit with actual images of the space.

When Ally contacted me in January, I was having a glass of wine (or three) with my friend Lisa and was probably repeating myself excessively saying “See, look, this is the perfect reason for me to get the studio… she wants it simple and to come to me! I can do this.” And Lisa was probably politely nodding, wondering when I’d stop talking about it.

But I had an idea and I knew how I wanted it to come together. I wanted to create a comfortable space with great light where my clients could come, not have to worry about me showing up at their home just days after having a baby. I wanted to have coffee, magazines, treats. Comfortable chairs. A bed. Samples of my work. But most important, I just wanted it to be easy. With good light. It’s not to say I won’t still travel to client’s homes for newborn or baby sessions, I just wanted it to be a great option, year round, for everyone.

And so knowing that Ally was the first session I’d shoot there, with her due date on my calendar, I charged forward. The Thursday before, mom and I were ironing curtains and blankets, and tidying up, and making sure everything was perfect. And I think it was. There are a million things left to do, hang samples, set up a TV, get a rug, etc. But it’s ready for shooting and within my first week, three sessions scheduled here.

When Ally, Matt and Jack arrived, I knew it would be even more perfect. Ally found me through ISIS Parenting, one of my most favorite family resources. Like I do with most clients, we just clicked and I felt like I’d known her forever… like maybe I’d babysat for her in a prior life and she’s turned out to be this amazing woman with a wonderful new family. Matt was really accommodating and managed to balance the stress of being a new dad, with being needed at work, and spending his morning on a bed at a photography studio — I really appreciate that because I know that for dads, it’s a totally different ballgame than for moms, and it makes such a difference when they are there an happy to be a part of what I do. So thank you.

Thank you both. Your family is awesome. Your baby is delicious. I can’t wait for you to see your entire slide show!
