The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

I had a wonderful Saturday morning meeting this babe… you know how I love to ditch my own family to spend time with my client’s! They love in the coolest house in my fav part of the city… it makes me so happy when I can be back in the old Hood. Not only that, I was all set to put it in a Resident Parking spot and deal with the ticket later, but I pulled up and there was an open Visitor’s parking spot RIGHT AT THEIR FRONT DOOR! [If you know me, you know I pride myself on good parking karma].

So once again, you know I am going to tell you how much I liked this family [I sound like I am off my rocker, but I seriously fall in love with my clients when I am with them.] Christie and I just. I would bet that she and I could meet for lunch and not stop talking — parenting, working mom dilemma’s and how cleaning the house just isn’t fun. But she has me beat by a long shot with nursery decor. I am not kidding you when I tell you that this was one of the prettiest nurseries I have ever seen. Not too classic, not too mod, not too trendy, but beautiful with just a bit of whimsical. And awesome light.

So here is yummy baby Olivia who was just so good. It was a pleasure!

Loved our session this month! I walked in thinking “What am I ever going to do with these guys to make it special? It’s raining and grey and none of the things I thought up even feel feasible in this cold…” And this house, and these babies, they never fail to disappoint. It is probably the best thing I can do for my photography growth and development… every month looking for new and unique challenges, not re-using props or locations, working with the babes so that I document their evolution and show their uniqueness and bond! I also keep thinking about all the One Year albums options there are… and Carolyn’s fabulous canvas wall… this has been way more fun than I ever expected!

I am seriously loving these babes though. They have totally distinct personalities, but are so cute in that they still grab for each other, knowing they are connected. And I think they weigh more than Janey… and Will for sure has more hair than she does! Hopefully she’ll like younger men…

We’ve known Andy and Sarah for a long time now… it gets crazy when you add up the years because it sort of feels like it was just yesterday that I was a super cute size 4 and pranced my way into the Funk Software Holiday Party! But alas, it was more like seven or eight years ago… That was the first time I met these guys and I instantly hit it off with them! Andy and Owen worked with each other for a long time before that, so even though they haven’t made it official, they are kind of like blood brothers [at least I don't think they've made it official... I dunno... maybe one of those random nights at the Cabin or at Desfina they did actually prick their fingers... that's sort of a guy thing, right? At least that's what I learned watching The Hangover]. Clearly I digress [I actually sat there for a few minutes thinking about that one].

Anyway, although I’ve spent time with Andy, Sarah and Murdoch, I never got to meet the lovely Baby Thayer, so I invited myself into their family for a morning and it was so fun! My favorite sessions are the lifestyle family kind where you can just capture a family being a family. It makes me really happy when I come home and look at what I shot, and I see the images that string together and tell a story. So I hope you guys enjoy these too!

And my apologies for the delay, you know if you are a friend of mine you ALWAYS end up waiting… and waiting… and waiting! I guess the upside is that you get a REALLY big blog post because your session is already proofed and ready!

Rockabye Sweet Baby James. And Rockabye we did. To little avail. Prior to my Monday sessions, the other times I’d actually seen James, he’d been out like a light. But not for our session. And do you know what? I am TOTALLY great with that. There is this photographer myth that newborns have to be asleep to get awesome images. And yes, it’s much easier to curl them up and pose them when they are. But seeing as that I emit caffeine from my pores, and seemingly wake up every newborn I spend time with, I’ve adjusted my style to really embrace lifestyle moments. And I LOVE it. I might actually chuck the bean bag and the backdrop all together. Really.

There are a few other reasons I am simply in love with this session. I got to spend time chilling with Steph. And then little Gracie (my son’s future prom date) curled up next to me and proceeded to put on every newborn item I had in my bag. And Colin came home to be the amazing older brother. And it was rainy and grey and I shot the 2nd part of the session at f/2.8 ISO 5000. And I knew it would be B&W grainy. And I loved that too.

We have some future plans for Sweet Baby James involving some super cute new things I want to try out. We’ll feature those in the next installment of the Sweet Baby James Show! Stay tuned!

Yes, I realize this is a monster of a sneak peak. And I know I should be doing my taxes. But Steph deserves this!

And everybody has the fever! It feels so awesome to be outside, taking walks, going to the park, looking at bulbs popping up [kicking myself for not getting in crocuses last fall]. Owen did a massive spring clean, probably because he just really wanted some stuff to burn. I bought Christofer a soccer ball and we’ve been having a ball kicking it around [although I highly recommend NOT trying to play soccer in patent leather Dankso clogs]. Last night we went to a Terri Lee’s house and caught up with friends and it felt like we hadn’t hung out in months. But it was just so nice. Owen and I pretty much spent the evening punting our kids to Jessie and Dani… or playing “kid ping pong” ["go find daddy" "ask your mother" "hold her for a sec while I..." "can't you take her for a minute so I can..."]. And the best part of the night was seeing Jen, and eating TL’s stove-top popcorn [like hot outdoor stove, not Thermador stove].

Thank you! It was awesome!

She captured this one which I love. I wish I’d remembered to switch up to all focus points when I handed her my camera though… she did make me laugh with the “can’t you just put this thing on Auto?” [and yes, there will be a workshop for that coming soon].
