The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

February 27, 2010

At 6AM this morning, after 36 hours in the cold and dark, power came back on.  Owen got up, took the kids to the gym for swimming, and happily I am lying in bed with my laptop, in a silent and warm (and messy) house.  If I had coffee, I would have everything in the world I have ever dreamed for.  I also sort of started panicking that I have a lot to do as I’ve only been able to use my iPhone since Thursday night (and Thursday was a wash.. so really, no work since Wednesday)… but shockingly, there isn’t that much I can do as I am really waiting for orders to come in so I can ship out!  So here are a few things going on:

Canvases! My dining room is covered in canvases… they are slowly making their way back out the door.  If you are waiting on a canvas from me, except for Lisa, they are all in!  What a huge success!  I ordered about 30 canvases in January and February and was so impressed and inspired by them, I created more canvas packages that give you a great discount and are fabulous add-ons to my digital packages.  Those will all be announced and released March 1.

[Note that I STILL have out those upholstery samples... I hope I am not being charged!]

ISIS Display! I finally made my way back into ISIS Maternity to hang up more for my display.  It has been a million mile road for me to get back there when you combine trying to find a day when I don’t have my kids and they don’t have a class in session… then add in that Owen, inadvertently, drove over a FedEx delivery of canvases that was leaning against the garage door… so there was a re-order… and finally (with kids in tow), I was able to make it into the Prudential Center yesterday.  My display is in the Charlestown Room, go check it out!  I also left some cards for the Nursery Contest, so you can pick up hard copy details!

[Just to give you an idea of Go Big or Go Home... I have EIGHT 16X20 canvases in this room and it still feels naked.]

Taylor Made Sweets: I am working on a display for the big orange wall at this fabulous Bakery in South Hamilton (in the shopping center with Viola and Crosby’s Market].  I shot one session with Taylor herself and her two beautiful friends.  I am so excited to head back there on Wednesday and work with the little kiddos.  I think I have enough kids, but if you are local to the North Shore and have kids between 3-6 and want to come in for some photos and ice cream at 10:45AM on Wednesday, please email me (using the contact form on the blog), and we can see if we can squeeze you in!

More to come from this session when I get my act in gear!

The Nursery Contest. Still going on, send in your entries.  I might extend the date simply because when the initial round of judging is meant to be happening, I will be shooting a Newborn, a Maternity and  Family session (with possibly an infant session squeezed in as well) + packing up the kiddos so we can head to Naples.  So I am not sure I can get it together during those dates and would love to give people more time to enter!  Details are over on the sidebar tab!

And to end, just one quick snapshot of the Boy and his grandmother from our visit last weekend.  There are a bunch of cute ones, but you know I get to proofing the family last and so this might be the only one that ever sees the light of day!  He had such a good time!

February 24, 2010

I absolutely love heading down the street for these sessions.  I have so many ideas for the warm weather, and for when these guys can sit up!  I am thinking my May session is going to be off the hook… and hopefully for the June session we’ll shoot the entire family!  I am hoping we can do one full session just in the barn.   It is so fun watching Jack & Will grow each month… they are out of the newborn stage where you have to carefully hold up their heads and worry endlessly about them.  They are really strong and sturdy and push up so well!  They are getting the hang of holding their feet and I bet it’s so soon before they are really rolling over… then a whole new set of worries!

Can’t wait for next month!

February 16, 2010

I can’t believe these guys are turning one!  I met them last April when they were about 8 weeks old, saw them at 5 months, 9 months and finally a year!  I seem to be syncing up with pedi well visits, so I am thinking we keep that schedule going next year as well!  I selfishly photograph these guys for ME because it makes me really happy to see them growing and doing so well… but I think Stacey thinks it’s for her!  I posted an extra big sneak peak because I know these yummy little kiddos have a following of a lot of people who love them, so I am really happy to be able to share!

Nursery Contest Boston Photographer

Is your baby between 6-12 months old (ideally sitting!)?
Do you have a super cool nursery?
Would you be interested in winning a free session and mini-print package?

[contest information will be pinned to the sidebar until the contest is complete!  check there for details and updates!]

If you answered yes to all three of these questions, we would love to see pictures.  What’s in it for you?  A chance to win a free photography session featuring your baby and your nursery!  We would like to see between 1-4 photographs of your space.  At least one photograph must include your baby in the nursery itself.  We are looking for creative use of light, color and design elements.  Images must be taken by you or someone in your family (as in “please don’t submit images taken by another professional photographer.”)

All submissions must be received by midnight, March 5, 2010.

Entries will be judged by a panel of photographers who will narrow down the selection to 5 nurseries.  The finalists will be posted on the Kristina Young Photography Blog and the winner will be chosen via a public voting poll.  Voting will occur between March 10 – March 17, 2010. There are specific rules around voting that will be clarified during the voting round of the contest.

Winners will be announced on March 19, 2010. There will be 2nd & 3rd place prizes also awarded — gift certificates to Kenzie Kids (Wellesley & Dedham) & The Flat of the Hill (Beacon Hill)!. Winner must schedule session so it takes place between March 27 – May 8, 2010. Winners must sign a release to allow participating photographers to display images on blog, website, Facebook Business Page and any other print or web materials as deemed appropriate.

To enter, complete the following submission form: http://kristinayoungphotography.com/blog/nursery-contest-submission

The Fine Print.

This is our contest, we make the rules.  We have researched many different ways of voting and there are pros and cons and hanging chads in just about every method out there.  This is how we have decided to run our contest, if it’s not a fit for you, we respectfully accept your decision to decline participation.  We also know there are ways to work around the system, so we will actively monitor IP addresses and research anything that appears to be fishy.  We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that appears to be suspicious.

All participants must agree to sign a model release allowing images to be displayed on participating blogs.  Winning participants must sign a release allowing images taken by participating photographers to be displayed on web site, blog, Facebook and print advertising sources.  Participants must also agree to standard Terms & Conditions of participating photographers.

Winning participants will receive a complimentary session focusing on nursery, baby and/or family as outlined by participating photographer.  Additional items may also be included.  Regular session terms and conditions apply.

We require an electronically marked consent that you are entering this contest voluntarily and that participating photographer is not promising any winnings or other compensation for participation.
