The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

One of the most fabulous and driving reasons for me to invite myself to Amber’s house was to watch her work with newborns.  Her newborn work is second to none and so being able to see her run through a session start to finish was an amazing learning experience.   She is by far the most patient photographer I’ve met and clearly demonstrated that if you take your time, you get the shots.

I am so excited to book some newborn sessions this fall!  In fact, so so excited that I am giving away a FREE session (no prints or images, just no session fee) to one lucky person.  They can use it themselves or give it away as a gift!  To enter, all you have to do is leave me AND Amber a blog comment on our newborn session from this weekend.  Newborn sessions must be scheduled for the first two week’s of your baby’s life, so we’ll need to be in touch towards the end of your pregnancy.  If you baby has already been born, unfortunately you will not qualify to win as I cannot schedule your session for another three weeks.  Contest will run until Friday 9/18!  I’ll send the winner more details!  Spread the word, spread the love!

I am having a lovely time.  A fun time.  A crazy time.  A learning time.  In short, everything I could have hoped for plus more.

I got in late on Thursday night and all the girlies were waiting up for me to arrive safely.  Amber‘s house is simply to die for.  Andrea explained it best: it’s perfect because it has two of everything.  I slept [with Laura] in the most luxurious bed.  Friday we spent lounging around and ended the day with a photoshoot outside.  As you can see from Shey’s blog, I [soberly] volunteered to get in the water.  Why not?

Amy made a yummy dinner with help from Becky & Kim.  And then we went to bed.  Or not.  We might have stayed up drinking, all ending up in the hottub.  Or not.

So here are a few quick images from last night.  More from our Saturday sessions later on…

Before you all start singing my praises… I did NOT come up with this idea.  Although I have always given guidelines on what to wear, and I have a What to Wear section in my client information packet, the idea of blogging What to Wear is not mine.  Many photographers do this.  But I did hijack the idea because we are upon the Holiday Card time of year and I’d like to offer up some ideas.  These are just ideas, I am not suggesting you spend the $612 or so that I just pulled together on Mom’s outfit at Boden.  But… if you are going to Boden, check out their Outfit Maker!  It’s fabulous!  {it also drew attention to the fact I dress like a dud, another story entirely.}

It took me at least an hour to come up with this, so I do know it’s not an easy task.  Things I kept in mind… I started with mom… because if mom looks good, everyone will have a much better day.  I also believe that if a mom is not comfortable in her outfit, she will generally feel bad about herself and not like the pictures.  I am telling you this because (1) I know it’s true and (2) I am that mom.   So moms… start with you and work out.  Once I had her outfit pulled together (and again, can’t sing enough praises about the Outfit Maker), I started on the boy… there was a Boden sweater I just loved that was the same aqua but with an argyle.  But after dressing boy & girl in aqua, mom in aqua, it didn’t leave me with much for Dad.  If everyone is dressed identical, it’s just plain boring.  I also decided to play it a bit more safe because aqua is a big color, so doing an aqua argyle was a bit too bold of a statement for me.  I loved the aqua and brown because it screams fall with a tiny little nod to the ocean!  I added in the cream pants for the dad (ok, light brown, sorry Owen, I won’t put you in cream) because I thought Mom & Dad would look great together and it would tie in nicely if you did cream tights for mom or the girl.  I also have some cream accents in the mom’s necklace.  Finally, I imagined the pairings you’d do in a session… Mom & Dad, Mom & Son, etc. and everyone seemed to really compliment each other.

Next week I’ll focus on a Gap or Old Navy option, then a more formal one with perhaps Olive Juice dresses for the girls!  Please leave me some love and let me know if you found this to be at all helpful!

from “in a relationship” to “engaged.”

WAHOOOOOOO!

So that’s what would happen if Mandy was on Facebook.  But she’s not.  So I figured I’d announce it to the world here (with her permission of course).

Mandy and Chris are getting married.  I am so excited.  We just adore Chris.  And little Chris is so excited that he has an Uncle Chris.  I remember how psyched Sammy was when he could call Owen Uncle Owen.  It’s like a BIG DEAL to little kiddos.

Anyway, land the plane Kristina, Chris is just the perfect fit for Mandy.  Seriously.  If you could put down on paper what you’d want in a partner (from Mandy’s perspective), you would arrive at the definition of Chris.  He’s from a great family.  He’s from Long Island.  He surfs (and apparently kicks O-Dog’s bootie, a win on it’s own).  He’s smart.  He’s well educated.  He has a great job.  He cares about important things… the ocean, the animals, the environment, the world.  He’s a great dad dog and invested in bringing up Salty Dog the right way (an aside to Chris: even the best intentions are sometimes lost on a “spirited” child).  He’s so good to Robs & TY.  He’s so good to our kiddos.  Oh, and he’s wicked cute.  No, really, he is!

I think most important, Chris let’s Mandy be the Mandy, or the Weasel, which ever she is feeling that day… whatever she waannttsssss.  And that is really the most important thing at the end of the day.

So Mandy and Chris, we are just so excited for the upcoming year and all the fun wedding preparations, and we are even more excited for your lifetime of happiness!  Yassou!
