The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

I was so excited to meet Amanda… she found me through my ad in Northshore Magazine which is really great because it reassures me that my marketing is getting to the right people!  And of course she lives in my favorite town, and has two beautiful children that are two years apart… in fact her youngest is just one day younger than Janey!  I always feel right at home with kids these ages… I love the curiosity and spirit of smart little toddler boys… and thirteen months, well, I could go on about how it’s one of my favorite ages.  Walking, running, still a little unsure, but also social enough to venture out and check things out, warm to strange ladies that point big lenses in their face, and give great eye contact!

Amanda and Noah, your family is beautiful.  I truly enjoyed our morning together… hope you were able to cool down with a swim and some ice cream after I left!  That is just what I did!  Thank you!

I love this [first shot out of the camera] because I said “are you going to be the awesome almost-3-year-old and show me how it’s done?”  And this is what I got!

And I love this because if we had a family portrait, I know Janey would want “The Soph” in it as well.

This is Harry.  He accompanies me to all my sessions and usually makes little boys very happy.  Sometimes scared, but usually happy.

When I grow up… When my kids grow up, I really want them to be good kids.  I want them to say please and thank you, be grateful and gracious and be nice to old people (like people in their late 30s) and laugh at their jokes (even if they have no idea what they are talking about).  Because these guys did just that.  And I just kept thinking “these guys are seriously good guys, what a pleasure.”

This was my first time shooting at River Road this year and I was loving it.  It was late day light, but we caught it right.  We skipped the shoes, but I think it works… and we got a mix of portraits and messing around, so hopefully that does the trick for both parents and high school requirements!

Thanks Matt & Ian.  You guys are very funny.  I have many more to show you, but must wait until my systems are all repaired.  I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer!

Probably.

As many of you know, all too well, I run behind.  This summer has been a time management disaster mainly because of technology issues.  While on vacation, I broke my IBM laptop (keyboard failure), my brand spanking new Mac laptop (harddrive failed, data files recovered) and my blackberry.   Both laptops are back.  I am trying to re-install everything onto my laptop so it works like a desktop, but it’s just not the right calibration, so my prints aren’t perfect.  So that’s a challenge and why I proof on my desktop. That said, ALL my client images are on external Western Digital drives and they are ALL safe.  I just don’t want to proof or order until my monitors are all calibrated.

I made the switch to an iPhone, but that required switching cell providers… so I can’t get to my Verizon voice mail and my iPhone won’t be here for another 2 days.  So incommunicado if you have tried to call.  My apologies.

Lo and behold, I walked into my office this morning only to find that my trusty iMac is dead.  Dead firewire ports, one dead USB port and a totally, completely, shot-to-hell harddrive.  Fortunately, it’s under warranty.  Unfortunately I cannot get to 6-9 months of images of my life.   Those were not stored on external drives.  I am so sick to my stomach.  Apple was kind enough to tell me they will give me back my shot drive (apprentice that was in question, then they must have seen the look on my face).   I will pay whatever it is I have to pay to recover the drive.  It devastates me that I could lose one single image of my children.  On top of that, there was just a lot on that desktop with respect to contact management, invoices, business templates that are just gone.

This is a long, nice way of me asking you to be patient, more patient than you always are, with me.  I can’t thank you enough.

If you can hit it off with someone before you actually meet them, then this is what happened with Mia and I. When she said her family would be in Rockport for a vacation, I was super excited, obviously knowing the town very well. Mia found me on Gardenmoms which is not only a great resource for Boston Moms, but also an excellent source of beautiful clients for me (you can check out other GM sessions by clicking on the category link above and choosing “gardenmoms”). I chuckled a bit when I got Mia’s check because she lives on a street that I know well in Newton as a friend grew up there. Prior to the session, we chatted about what time and good light and I told here to look here to see what the light in Rockport looks like at 6PM.

Imagine my surprise, rather, insane spastic delight… the house they rented was ON THE SAME STREET as the cottage where I took the above mentioned image two weeks ago (and I grew up spending every summer running down that same street!). And what are the chances that I show up and Mia’s mom is a YIA YA? You know me, lovin’ the Greek connection! And just to make sure that everyone is nicely connected and tied up with a bow… Nicole & Matt (Mia’s brother) live across the street from these guys.

So all in all, in addition to the most fabulous light, amazing weather, and my favorite location… it was a lovefest.

I hope the entire family has an amazing vacation. Thank you so much for having me visit so I could capture a slice of it! Have a wonderful time and Yiaya, Pous and Pam, have a safe trip home! I have so many images it was difficult for me to choose which to blog, so I just grabbed a handful {although I am already thinking there are about 10 others I want to post}, I hope you enjoy!
