The blog has moved...

You've reached my old blog... In order to simplify my blog, my portfolio and my life, I combined my blog and site into one. Now you can find my "blog" entries on my Recent Work page. You can also view my portfolio, link to slideshows and client information, and locate anything else you might need all in one place.

This blog contains old session blog posts, and my failed 2011 attempt at "One Image a Day" project in which I force myself to shoot something each day, personal or professional, as a challenge to myself. I'd love to hear what you think of the images as they might slightly stray from the norm. We'll see if I can pick it up for 2012!

If so, it means you’ve been shopping at The Flat of the Hill, Boston’s best specialty gift shop. The Flat of the Hill is located in Beacon Hill and has hands down the best assortment of treats and treasures for the woman with preppy-come-chic style. For ten years, Katherine has been bringing the city the best of handbags (think Kooba & Botkier), candles (be, Kai, Trapp), home goods (Mariposa, Signtaure Signs, Touch of Ivy), and just about everything in between (gifts for new moms, old moms, hip single women, and even pets).

More important, my sign is in her window! And if you stop by and say hello, be sure to pick up a card at the front desk that offers you a sweet little deal, courtesy of the girls of the Flat of the Hill and Kristina Young Photography!

My new site! Check it out!

www.kristinayoungphotography.com (it’s the same address as before, but with totally new and updated content!). Let me know what you think!

As for the contest. What fun. And wow, a little close to home I realized as last week 3 contestants were all in the same room as me doing pilates (I write it that way so it sounds as if me exercising is a regular thing — did you buy it?).

We clearly have a winner… actually, we have many winners. I was so excited to choose those 15 images that each contestant will receive a little something from me regardless of the number of votes. Knowing me and my promptness, you’ll probably see your treat sometime in 2011.

Keep checking back for updates on my new frames, albums, session image boxes and great referral cards for past customers We have some really fabulous things in store this year!

Thank you!

[Did I forget to mention the absolutely amazing designer that helped me pull all this together? I think I did. It is none other than Mary Carstens of the wonderful Paper & Ink Studio. Check out her Etsy shop for ready made designs or her web site for amazing custom invitations. Tell her I sent you!).

If you aren’t ready to see cuteness... then look away. Because these adorable kids are back on my blog and they’ve got their super cute cousins in tow.

I had a great time meeting the rest of Becky’s family today. It was such nice time away from the house. I am not sure my mom felt the same way, but it was a pleasure for me!

I love this picture because I think it shows a dynamic that will be there for years to come. I always watch our kids settle into little groups and I love that I can see it happening here!

Last minute votes accepted… there will be a host of fun little giveaways for all participants, so don’t think your vote doesn’t count towards something!

February 11, 2009

Let me start by prefacing that I LOVE all my clients and I LOVE all the sessions I have done. Coming up with the images for the Canvas Contest was really very difficult for me because I started with a pool of over 50 images and had to narrow them down. Then I immediately felt bad for the images I didn’t include and had to start the whole process over again. I also only included images that I thought lent themselves to print well on canvas (I have other favorites that I love but think they show better as prints or gallery mounts). Then I went back and forth on figuring out whether I should do rounds, first, second, third place, how do I feel about people sending out mass requests to list-servs asking people to vote for them, etc.

So here’s the net. What you see is what you get. The winner gets a canvas (I won’t know what size until I see the winner), the runners up may also get something, but I am not sure what as I have no idea what the spread of votes will be. I really wish I could hide the vote results because I hate for someone to not get a lot of votes simply because they didn’t get the word out to vote… those people should know that they were MY favorite images for the year and that should count for something (or nothing, depending on what you think of my opinion!).

I will leave the voting up until my new site is live — that means you all have to come back and check it out! You can only vote once. There are IP and cookie validations and I can check to make sure no one is doing anything funky to the system.

Have fun… and leave comments, you know how I love them so!

P.S.  I am running this contest for no other reason other than I want to, it’s fun, and I think my clients are awesome and I want to give them a treat as a Thank You.
